On a hot spring morning at the Shanghai Old Town Stadium, 300 of the top amateur runners and fitness influencers gathered on the arena’s all-weather track in a ‘ceremony of mask removals’, marking the return of the very first outdoor event since the lockdowns of Covid-19.

It was a beautiful site and a wonderful symbolic movement, marking the return of outdoor gatherings and the loosening of (outdoor) mask restrictions, all following the national lock-down China had enforced for over 2.5 months.

The +1 Event, also marked the finale of a 31 day, 500,000 KM collective run for wellness whereby NIKE assembled fitness communities to celebrate and cross the finish line together.  The day included individual and relay team track events and was concluded with a “Dynamic Meditation powered by TEKTONIKmusic.org” and led by Shanghainese lifestyle influencer Mary Ma.  The group spanned the field and joined in slow, full breaths, building up to a powerful and celebratory musical finish filled with free movement and heart-filled greetings.  This touching moment, bringing most to tears, is a beacon of hope and a notch of progress during a longer journey towards global harmony and a graduation to our new normalcy.
